I’ve been working on that project for a couple of month.
Kalwa is a simple cookbook app based on KDE4 technologies. It allows to add recipes with pictures and metadata and to filter through different information. It also includes a shopping list module.
The app is still in early development and a lot needs to be done before it can be used on a daily basis. The TODO list is pretty long in fact.

How does 3D effects affect power consumption on a laptop?
I’ve been running KDE4 svn for almost 3 months now on a macbook pro laptop and I’m quite curious about the battery performance of the laptop while unplugged, mostly because my work involves traveling a lot, either by plane or train.
The laptop is running hot rapidly and the battery won’t last more than 2 hours (the laptop is new…).
Things you should look into:
- 3D effects upgrade the performance level of the GPU
- VSync on nVidia GPUs make X reach up to 50% of your CPU
- Strigi triggers Nepomuk a lot, Nepomuk seems to be very cpu intensive.
By deactivating 3D effects and Nepomuk while on battery you should save on power consumption.
I still have to find a way to do it though…
